Teenage boy dies after crash in allegedly stolen vehicle
by Jessica Belzycki · Newcastle HeraldA teenage boy has died after an allegedly stolen car crashed into a paddock in Lake Macquarie at the weekend.
Emergency services were called to Willow Road, Gateshead about 3am on Monday August 3 to reports of a crash.
At the scene, officers found a Toyota Kluger had left the road and crashed into a paddock.
A 13-year-old boy was treated by emergency services but he could not be revived and he died at the scene.
A 14-year-old boy who was also in the car was arrested and taken to hospital with leg injuries under police guard.
Police believe two other people were in the car at the time of the crash but had left the scene before officers arrived.
Initial police inquiries found that the vehicle was stolen from the Swansea area between 10pm on Sunday August 2 and 3am on Monday.
Following inquiries, police also arrested another 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man and took them to John Hunter Hospital under police guard.
Inquiries are continuing and police urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
