Drugs, weapons seized during Selwyn arrest

A Christchurch man is facing numerous charges after police uncovered a trove of drugs, ammunition and weapons during a routine patrol. 
Acting Senior Sergeant Rob Irvine said in a statement Darfield police caught sight of a known offender driving while suspended on West Coast Rd in Selwyn about 1.30pm yesterday.

Officers turned on lights and sirens to signal the driver to pull over.

"The driver fled instead, accelerating at speed on the highway and driving on the wrong side of the road, dramatically trying to avoid police."

Snr Sgt Irvine said due to the manner the man's driving, officers did not begin a pursuit.

"Police followed at a distance and located the offender’s home address where they found skid marks over the gravel driveway and the vehicle parked out back - with the engine and tires still burning hot.

"A search of the vehicle uncovered the large amount of drugs, before more specialist staff and a police dog unit assisted of a further search of the property.

"As a result, police seized three cannabis plants, along with LSD, 500 grams of cocaine, steroids, a box of .22 and shotgun ammunition and a high-powered Taser."

Drugs and ammunition were also found.

A 40-year-old man was arrested and was to appear in the Christchurch District Court today facing 12 charges.

They include reckless driving, unlawfully possessing ammunition, possessing for supply of cannabis plant, cultivating cannabis, possessing for supply of LSD and cocaine, unlawfully possessing a restricted weapon and breaches of the Medicines Act.
