Person critically injured after crashing into power pole

A Canterbury road has been closed after a vehicle hit a power pole on Friday morning.

Police said Bealey Rd in Hororata, Selwyn, is currently closed following the serious crash.

Police were called to the scene about 7.50am after the vehicle hit the power pole between Derretts Rd and Plantation Rd.

One person has received critical injuries, a police spokesperson said.

"The Serious Crash Unit has been advised and the road is expected to remain closed for some time while emergency services work at the scene," the spokesperson said.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays."
