Drunk pizza delivery driver given a slice of justice

by · Otago Daily Times Online News

Pizza customers were left to go hungry while Oamaru police delivered a slice of justice.

A pizza delivery driver was pinged for drink driving at a police checkpoint on Thames Highway (SH1) on Saturday night while on their delivery run.

The 32-year-old Oamaru woman allegedly recorded a breath alcohol level of 679mcg — more than twice the legal limit.

She would appear in the Oamaru District Court next week.

Oamaru Sergeant Tony Woodbridge said 60 to 70 cars went through with just one driver being over the legal limit.

Sgt Woodbridge said Oamaru police were ramping up with more checkpoints in the town and encouraged people to plan ahead on how to get home.

"Most people plan for a night out but don’t plan how to get home.”
