Pizza parlour robbers leave dough behind
by Laine Priestley · Otago Daily Times Online NewsA set of good Samaritan students didn't take a slice of the pie when they found a pizza parlour’s cash-filled till lying in the street.
One of the students said the till was lying in the ground wide open in George St, Dunedin, about 10.30pm yesterday with a majority of the over $700 in cash sitting out in the open "in a clean pile".
The students then called police to report the find, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said.
It was unknown why the culprits neglected to take the cash with them.
Inquiries quickly led police to Sal's Authentic New York Pizza in Great King St, Dunedin North.
When officers arrived, they found the glass on the front doors was smashed in and there were signs of a forced entry.
The owners were called to secure the building, as well as to hand over CCTV to police.
Video footage captured two persons of interest, Snr Sgt Notman said.
‘‘Inquiries are continuing today to identify and locate these people.
‘‘If anyone has any information that could assist police with their inquiries, please call 105 to report and quote file number 260520/0703.’’
