Ravi returns with new music for the first time after military service evasion conviction

Former VIXX rapper Ravi, who was previously convicted of violating South Korea’s Military Service Act, has officially returned to the music scene with a new release.

On June 22 at 6 PM KST, Ravi released his new digital single, "Dusk," through major online music platforms, signaling the resumption of his activities. The track marks his first musical release since becoming embroiled in a military service evasion scandal.

The new single is a hip-hop song that reflects various emotions and the passage of time experienced throughout life, interpreted through Ravi’s personal perspective. The track combines a lyrical atmosphere with his restrained yet powerful rap delivery.

Convicted in Fake Epilepsy Military Exemption Case

Ravi was previously prosecuted in 2022 for conspiring with a military service broker to evade his mandatory military duties.

According to investigators, he followed a so-called “epilepsy scenario” provided by the broker, pretending to suffer fainting episodes in order to obtain a false medical diagnosis. He then submitted the documents to the Military Manpower Administration in an attempt to receive a reduced military service classification.

Public backlash intensified after messages surfaced showing the broker allegedly telling Ravi, “Good, you’re exempt from military service.”

As the controversy grew, Ravi stepped down from the variety show he was appearing on at the time and voluntarily left VIXX.

In the first trial, the court sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended for two years, along with 120 hours of community service. Prosecutors appealed the ruling, arguing the sentence was too lenient, but the appellate court upheld the original verdict.

After the ruling became final, Ravi completed the remainder of his military obligations in accordance with instructions from the Military Manpower Administration and was officially discharged from service on Dec. 13 last year.
