Prosecutors seek 10-year sentence for intruder who threatened Nana and her mother
by Minsoo-Kim · allkpopNana and her mother’s home invasion case has reached its sentencing stage, with prosecutors requesting a heavy prison term for the defendant.
On May 19 KST, the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors’ Office’s Namyangju branch asked the court to sentence a 34-year-old man identified only as Kim to 10 years in prison during the final hearing held at the Uijeongbu District Court’s Namyangju branch.
Kim was indicted on charges of robbery and assault after allegedly breaking into Nana’s home in Guri in November last year while carrying a weapon. Prosecutors stated that he threatened Nana and her mother, demanded valuables, and caused injuries during the incident.
The prosecution argued that the defendant committed a serious crime by unlawfully entering a residence with a weapon and threatening female victims, adding that he continues to deny parts of the allegations and has shown little remorse despite the severe psychological distress suffered by the victims.
According to the investigation, Nana and her mother reportedly subdued the suspect themselves after a physical struggle before police arrived at the scene.
The case drew additional public attention after the defendant filed a countercomplaint accusing Nana of attempted murder, claiming he was injured while being restrained. However, police determined that Nana and her mother acted in self-defense and declined to pursue charges against them. Nana later filed a false accusation complaint against the suspect.
During the hearing, the defendant’s lawyer argued that Kim had entered the residence with the intent to commit theft rather than robbery and claimed there was insufficient objective evidence proving he carried a weapon.
Kim partially denied the charges, saying, “I apologize to the victims, but I cannot admit to crimes I did not commit.”
In a previous hearing, Nana personally testified in court and stated that she continues to suffer severe trauma following the incident. After the trial, she wrote on social media that she hoped the defendant would “take responsibility for his malicious crimes,” adding the phrase “you reap what you sow.”
The first trial verdict is scheduled to be delivered on June 9.
