Lee Min Ki denies tax evasion allegations following audit

Lee Min Ki has denied allegations of intentional tax evasion following reports that he was recently ordered to pay a large amount in additional taxes after a tax audit.

On May 20 KST, his agency Sangyoung ENT released an official statement saying, “Lee Min Ki has faithfully fulfilled his tax obligations in compliance with tax laws since his debut.”

The agency added that the actor “transparently submitted all related materials and fully cooperated with the investigation during the recent tax audit.”

According to reports, the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted an intensive tax investigation into Lee Min Ki in March and imposed a substantial additional tax payment. The actor has reportedly operated a one-man agency, M MOMI Co., Ltd., since July 2021.

In response, the agency explained that the issue stemmed from “differences in interpretation of tax laws regarding expense processing standards during corporate operations.”

The statement further emphasized, “There was absolutely no intentional omission of income or unlawful tax evasion,” adding that Lee Min Ki respected the National Tax Service’s decision and promptly paid the assessed taxes according to procedures.

The agency also apologized for causing concern and stated that it would strengthen its accounting and tax management systems to prevent similar issues in the future.

Meanwhile, fellow Sangyoung ENT actor Lee Yi Kyung was also recently reported to have received an additional tax assessment related to the operation of his one-man agency. At the time, the agency similarly stated that the matter arose from differing interpretations of tax regulations regarding expense handling.
