Former NCT member Mark has issued an apology after sparking controversy for wearing a T-shirt featuring a symbol associated with far-right ideology and racism.

Mark's agency, Upper Room, posted a lengthy statement on its official social media accounts on June 23, addressing the backlash.

"We sincerely apologize for the concern, discomfort, and disappointment caused by the vintage T-shirt seen in recently shared photos," the agency said. "After recognizing the historical significance and sensitivity of the symbol displayed on the shirt, we took steps to ensure it would not appear in official content. Despite those efforts, the image was still shared and caused concern."

The company continued, "Regardless of our intentions, we acknowledge that we should have handled the matter with greater care. This oversight is entirely our responsibility. We understand the seriousness of the concerns raised and deeply apologize for the hurt caused by this incident."

Upper Room added, "We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt hurt, offended, or disappointed. We promise to move forward with greater responsibility, awareness, and attention."

The T-shirt worn by Mark featured the Confederate flag, the official flag of the Confederate States during the American Civil War. The symbol, which represented states that supported slavery, has since become widely associated with racism and far-right extremism. In some parts of the United States, the display of the Confederate flag and the sale of merchandise bearing its image have faced restrictions or bans.

Mark, who is Canadian, recently left SM Entertainment and established his own independent agency, Upper Room.
