No. 7 Loyola Chicago stuns No. 2 Rainbow Warriors in 4 sets

Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Kristian Titriyski, Justin Todd and Louis Sakanoko put up a block against Loyola Chicago Ramblers Aleksandar Sosa on Friday.
Aleksandar Sosa put down a match-high 19 kills and setter Ryan McElligott set the tone with four of his five aces in the first set to lead No. 7 Loyola Chicago to a 25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 29-27 upset of No. 2 Hawaii tonight at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Ramblers (1-1) bounced back from getting swept by the Rainbow Warriors (3-1) a night earlier in 94 minutes with an impressive performance.
Loyola Chicago out-blocked and out-served Hawaii to hand the ‘Bows their first January loss in two years.
Louis Sakanoko led Hawaii with 18 kills and set a career high with 12 digs, and Kristian Titriyski added 16 kills before sitting out the fourth set. UH hit .254 for the match and had six aces to the Ramblers’ eight. Loyola Chicago had 15.5 blocks to Hawaii’s 10.5.
Sophomore Ofeck Hazan, starting in place of Trevell Jordan in the middle, finished with five kills and four blocks.
Hawaii will play four matches in three days next week, with two each against Roberts Wesleyan and Rockhurst on the same days.
