HECO working to replace suspended utility pole in Kaimuki

Hawaiian Electric crews are working to restore a downed utility pole near the intersection of Waialae and 16th avenues today in Kaimuki.

Hawaiian Electric Co. crews are working this morning to replace a downed utility pole that was suspended off the ground near the intersection of Waialae and 16th avenues in Kaimuki following a motor vehicle crash.

At 7:38 a.m. today, police were at the scene where the utility pole was suspended in the air.

A power outage was reported at 6:58 a.m., affecting 14 customers in Kaimuki and Wilhelmina Rise with an estimated restoration time at 12:30 p.m. today, according to HECO’s Oahu outage map. In an email to the Star-Advertiser after noon today, a HECO spokesperson said planting the new utility pole will “take many more hours to complete.”

A motor vehicle crash was reported on 16th and Waialae avenues at 5:46 a.m., according to a police traffic incident report. Star-Advertiser sent an inquiry to the Honolulu Police Department for more details about the crash.

No injuries were reported, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.
