A single maritime operation off the coast of Oaxaca has delivered one of the region’s larger recent drug seizures, along with a violent aftermath on land.

The Mexican Navy said patrols in the area netted 4 tons of cocaine, three boats, and 13 arrests. Officials said the haul will keep millions of doses of cocaine off the streets.

The same forces later came under armed fire on land. The confrontation left one sailor hurt and one gunman dead.
