Ron DeSantis Offers Lindsay Clancy Holdout Juror “Asylum” in Florida After Report Surfaces of Past Domestic Violence Case

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis offered the lone holdout in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial “asylum” after NBC10 Boston reported that the juror has faced domestic violence allegations and is subject to an active restraining order. DeSantis accused the network of trying to “smear” the juror by talking about his legal troubles.

“A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected,” DeSantis wrote on X on Sept. 11.

NBC10 Boston reported that the juror was charged in 2021 with allegedly assaulting his then-wife. His 13-year-old nephew told police he saw the man grab her by the throat and throw her into a dresser.

The charge was later dismissed. The juror’s ex-wife said she stopped pursuing the case because she feared that testifying could cost her custody of her daughter.

In 2025, the same nephew obtained a restraining order against the juror after alleging that the man pushed him down and repeatedly punched him in the face. Massachusetts jury questionnaires ask prospective jurors whether they’ve been arrested, charged with a crime, or served with a court order, meaning the holdout would’ve had to answer yes to each question.

Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4 after more than 6 days of deliberations. The jury of 9 women and 3 men told Judge William Sullivan 3 times that it was deadlocked, with 11 jurors on one side and the holdout on the other.

Clancy, 36, pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility in the January 2023 strangulation deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Prosecutors argued that she deliberately killed the children at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home. Her defense said postpartum psychosis and medication left her without criminal responsibility.

After the killings, Clancy jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt and was left paralyzed from the waist down. Prosecutors haven’t announced whether they’ll retry the case, and a follow-up hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.
