Authorities said her husband and their 3-year-old son were fatally stabbed inside a room at the Great Wolf Lodge in Pocono Township, Pennsylvania, and Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, faces two counts of criminal homicide in those deaths.
Officers with the Pocono Township Police Department were sent to the resort around 3:13 p.m. on Oct. 12 after Harrison called to say she “needed help committing suicide.” When they arrived, they found her injured and discovered the bodies of her husband, Charles Harrison, and the couple’s young son while checking the room. She was taken to a hospital.
According to a criminal complaint, Harrison told a dispatcher she “needed help dying and was unable to find the vein in her neck to stab.” Officers saw cuts on her wrist and puncture wounds on her neck, and she told them she “wanted to be with her husband and son.”
Charles Harrison had multiple stab wounds to the chest, and the boy appeared to have a single stab wound to the chest. The two were found on separate mattresses on the floor.
While being taken to the hospital, Harrison repeatedly said “that she was not supposed to be here,” according to the complaint. She said, “I f—ed up, I f—ed up” and spoke about trying to be the best mother and wife, adding that “it wasn’t supposed to end like this.” When detectives later read her her Miranda rights, she declined to speak, saying she was “suicidal, not stupid.”
Investigators found two knives in the bathroom that did not belong to the resort, along with medication bottles and containers holding what appeared to be blood. Staff said the family had checked in on Sept. 21 and extended their stay through Oct. 13.
Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso called it a “violent domestic tragedy” and said the case posed no threat to the public. “This was a contained thing. The violence, although extreme, all took place within the confines of that room and involved close family members,” he said at an Oct. 13 news conference.
Authorities collected about 80 to 90 pieces of evidence from the room. Autopsies on Charles Harrison and the child are expected later this week, and Harrison is awaiting arraignment.
