Villar denies blocking LRT-1 Cavite extension
by CEDTyClea · BusinessWorld OnlineSENATOR Mark A. Villar on Tuesday denied allegations that he caused delays in the continuation of the Light Rail Transit-1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension project as the Office of the Ombudsman confirmed an ongoing probe against him and sibling Senator Camille A. Villar.
“I vehemently deny allegations that I delayed or blocked the implementation of the LRT-1 extension project. I have never used my position for personal gain,” Mr. Villar said in a statement sent to reporters over Viber.
He said he is open to any investigation on the matter.
Ms. Villar has yet to release a statement on the allegations.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin C. Remulla on Saturday said in a radio interview that there was an ongoing investigation against the Villar siblings for claims that they are allegedly blocking the construction of the LRT-1 extension project because they want the rails to traverse their lands.
The LRT-1 Cavite Extension opened the Phase 1 of the project in 2024 which added five stations southbound, connecting the Baclaran Station to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.
The next phases are expected to cover areas further south in Las Piñas, Zapote, and Bacoor, Cavite. — Kaela Patricia B. Gabriel
