Tinubu orders expansion of security force
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that in the wake of recent bandit attacks across the nation, President Bola Tinubu had ordered the Nigerian police force and the army to begin massive recruitment and bring in thousands of youths to increase and bolster the nation's security and defence.
Tinubu also declared a nationwide emergency on security after Nigeria experienced a tumultuous ten days of heightened insecurity.
The recent wave of attacks began with the abduction of six senior directors from the Ministry of Defence along the Kogi axis on November 11. Four days later, a Brigadier General was killed in what he described as a chilling sign of the danger facing even highly ranked personnel.
The cycle worsened on November 16 when 64 civilians, including women and children, were taken in Zamfara. The following day, 25 schoolgirls were abducted in Kebbi and their Vice Principal was murdered.
There was also an attack on worshippers in Kwara on November 18, where lives were lost, and 38 people were taken away.
On November 21, more than 300 children and 12 teachers were abducted in Niger state, and some soldiers sent to rescue the abducted kids were ambushed by bandits whose style of operation appeared to indicate they had an advanced knowledge of the Nigerian military operation.
