Bus with 53 pupils from Chipinge Junior School crashes in Rusape, teacher killed
A Gold Class Coach transporting 53 pupils and seven staff members from Chipinge Junior School was involved in an accident this Friday afternoon around 1:45pm in Rusape killing one teacher.
· Nehanda RadioA statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said; “On approaching the 165 km peg along Harare-Mutare Road, the driver tried to overtake a haulage truck, due to speeding, he lost control of the bus.
“The bus veered off the road to the right side, overturned and landed on its left side facing the northern direction.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has established that one female adult died on the spot. 25 students and six adults were injured. They have been taken to Rusape General Hospital for treatment,” the ZRP added.
“Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at Sakubva Bus Terminus, Mutare on 31st October 2024 at around 1700 hours in which two people were killed while four others were injured when a Nissan UD lorry, which was carrying beer, lost control, swerved to the left, overturned and landed on its right side.
“Investigations by the police have established that the driver intended to deliver beer at a bottlestore near Sakubva Bus Terminus when he tried to park the vehicle.
“The vehicle lost brakes, locked the steering wheel and gathered momentum into the bus terminus where it rammed onto the boom gate. Resultantly, six vendors were hit by the lorry while three.”
