″NOMBYism” is how Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke described the politics of cutting net overseas migration when he fronted the National Press Club this week to reveal Labor’s long-awaited plan to trim overseas arrivals.
“People will say that they want immigration numbers to go down, but they don’t want to mention which visa class, and they immediately want to rule out all the ones that they would rely on,” Burke said on Thursday.
