P enfolds Grange and intimate chats with prime ministers are two of the membership perks of what might be the most exclusive club in Australia, whose members gather for a typically boozy lunch on the last Tuesday of every month.

It all began in 1968, when prominent hoteliers Cyril Maloney, Des Ryan and John Toohey shared a Chinese meal at Sun Ah Cafe in Sydney’s Chinatown to celebrate Ryan’s birthday.
