Tony Hartnell, in his deafening shirts and incarnadine suspenders, with his weakness for race horses and knack for a long lunch, was hardly the model of a modern corporate regulator. But he was the sine qua non.
“We are all unanimous in our view that without Tony, it all just wouldn’t have happened,” said Alan Cameron, who succeeded Hartnell as chairman of what is now the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. “We all have a very high regard for him.”
