Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will launch a new National Scam Response Centre in January 2026
In a continuous battle against online scams, our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is slated to officially open a new National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) office in January 2026. The new NSRC headquarters will be housed at Tower 2 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in Cyberjaya, shifting operations from its previous base at Sasana Kijang under Bank Negara Malaysia.
The Relocation and Strategy
This facility is revamped for the purpose of reinforcing government commitments to protect consumers and recover funds lost to digital scams. As for the relocation, it is aimed at fostering better integration between agencies and enabling a more coordinated, round-the-clock response to online fraud cases.
With expanded manpower and facilities, the centre now fields significantly more daily calls than before. Authorities report that after the move to the new location, NSRC’s call volume has climbed, underscoring its role as a critical first point of contact for scam victims.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has highlighted that the upgraded NSRC will not only operate 24/7 but will also work closely with commercial banks and law enforcement to freeze compromised accounts and trace illicit fund flows. Prompt reporting within 30 to 60 minutes of detecting an unauthorised transaction remains crucial to improving the chances of recovering lost money.
Looking Ahead
On paper, this sounds great, but practical performance is yet to be determined. Nonetheless, the new NSRC office reflects the Malaysian government’s long-term strategy to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated online scams.
By centralising expertise, enhancing operational capabilities, and collaborating with banks and security agencies, the Malaysian government aims to empower consumers and reduce financial losses from digital fraud. Stay safe and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
