WATCH: Latvian Code documentary 'Monument of Help'
'Palīdzības piemineklis' (Monument of help) is a small shop in the center of the northern city of Alūksne. It is a social, cultural and human place, where people know each other, love each other and hate each other.
The walls, floors and communications of the former Alūksne post office have served their time. In winter, a small stove barely warms these rooms, and shelves full of all kinds of things appeal to strangers. The loud and energetic Ginta perfectly suits this place and situation. She knows how to talk, criticize and help everyone. Ginta's image complements everything that happens in this charity shop, where goods cost a mere 20 cents.
This place is like an island of the past next to the modern supermarket where you can buy almost nothing for 20 cents. How long can such a place last in the modern world?
