Russian Missile and Drone Attack on Kyiv Sparks Fires and Damages Buildings

Several explosions were reported in the Ukrainian capital overnight, while air defense systems were activated during the attack

Russia launched another overnight missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, causing fires and damaging several buildings, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the city’s military administration.

Klitschko said fires broke out in the Solomianskyi district at an educational complex, with emergency crews dispatched to the scene.

The Kyiv military administration said a non-residential building in another part of the district was also damaged.

A fire was also reported at a three-story municipal building in the Pecherskyi district.

Explosions reported across the capital

Several powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv during the early hours of Tuesday, while Ukrainian air defense systems were activated as an air raid alert was in effect, Reuters and Agence France-Presse reported.

“New ballistic missiles are heading toward Kyiv,” Ukraine’s Air Force warned in a Telegram post.

The overnight attack came amid continued Russian strikes across Ukraine.

Two injured in Kyiv region

Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform also reported that two people were injured in the Kyiv region, near Bucha, after the roof of a private home caught fire following a Russian drone attack.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said nine people had been killed and more than 80 injured in Russian drone attacks across the country, including in Kyiv.
