She's traumatised: Gurugram biker's family calls bike crash attempt to hit, seeks action

The family of a Gurugram woman biker has alleged that a car deliberately chased and hit her on Golf Course Road. They have sought strict action, saying she remains traumatised and the incident cannot be treated as an accident.

The family of the woman biker who was allegedly chased and hit by a car on Gurugram's Golf Course Road has demanded strict action against those responsible, with her father describing the incident as an intentional attempt to hit his daughter rather than an accident.

Speaking about the incident to Aaj Tak, India Today’s sister channel, the woman's brother said she called him around 8 pm after the crash and initially told him that she had been involved in a hit-and-run. She later told him that she had been chased by a car carrying four men, whom she alleged were drunk.

According to her brother, the woman is physically recovering and has resumed work, but is still struggling mentally after the incident. He said she continues to think about what happened and is traumatised by the experience.

"She is recovering physically, but mentally it is taking time," he said, adding that she had been riding a bike for around a year but had never experienced this kind of harassment on the road before.

The woman's father said he learnt about the incident only recently and spoke to his daughter after watching the video of the crash.

He said his daughter told him she had asked the occupants of the car to maintain some distance and that they had continued following her. He said the video itself showed what had happened and described the incident as a serious crime that could not be forgiven.

"This is not an accident. This is an attempt to hit," he said, calling for action against those involved and urging the police and government to ensure such incidents do not happen to others.

The incident took place on Gurugram's Golf Course Road when the woman was out riding with fellow bikers. According to her account, the occupants of a white sedan had been following her and the driver was driving aggressively. She had initially asked the driver to maintain a safe distance, but alleged that he instead told her to pull over. She also claimed that the occupants appeared to be drunk.

The woman then tried to stay ahead of the sedan as it continued following her. One of her fellow riders moved behind her motorcycle in an attempt to shield her from the car. The sedan subsequently swerved and allegedly rammed the woman's motorcycle from the side, throwing her onto the road. The collision was captured on an action camera mounted on her motorcycle and the video later went viral.

A second video recorded by a fellow rider showed him chasing the sedan after the collision. He briefly confronted the man when the car stopped at a traffic signal, but the vehicle later drove away. The woman was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident triggered police action, with Gurugram Police taking suo motu cognisance and registering a case against an unidentified person. Police had also ascertained the identity of the accused driver, formed three teams to trace him and conducted a raid at his residence. CCTV footage from the area was being examined as part of the investigation.

The accused has denied deliberately ramming the woman's motorcycle. In a statement to India Today TV, he claimed that two bikers had repeatedly overtaken his car, moved ahead and slowed down. He said he was unaware that a woman was riding the motorcycle and maintained that he had not hit them intentionally. He also claimed that the collision happened after the bikers turned on their motorcycle without looking into the car's mirror.

The accused further said that the complete sequence should be examined through CCTV footage and maintained that he regretted that the woman was injured. His account differs sharply from the woman's allegation that the car had followed her and was being driven aggressively before the collision.

Meanwhile, the woman's family has sought strict action against those responsible. Her father said such an incident should not happen to anyone else and stressed that the fact that his daughter escaped with her life should not take away from the seriousness of what happened.
