A family celebration turned costly for a Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress leader after he skipped the party’s ‘vote chori’ rally in Delhi to attend a ceremony marking the birth of his nephew.
Saurabh Sharma, the Youth Congress district president of Madhya Pradesh’s Maihar, was among 60 office-bearers suspended by the Madhya Pradesh unit for remaining absent from the November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan.
Sharma said he could not attend the rally as his elder brother, Nitin Sharma, had recently welcomed a baby boy and the family was hosting a traditional 'Barho' ceremony to celebrate the birth.
However, the party viewed his absence as organisational indiscipline and removed him from his post. Sharma has been suspended until further orders for negligence in organisational responsibilities and violation of party discipline.
Sharma acknowledged that the party viewed his absence as indiscipline but said he fully accepted the decision taken by its senior leadership.
