A neighbourhood dispute turned violent in Bhopal after a woman was allegedly attacked with a sword by her neighbours while she was on her way to lodge a complaint with the police. The incident took place in the Alamnagar area under the Pipalani police station limits, leaving the victim seriously injured.
According to the complaint filed by Vakil alias Shakeel Khan, the incident occurred on the evening of May 30. Police said a verbal altercation had broken out between the survivor, Parveen, and her neighbour Farheen and her husband, Mujahid.
The dispute reportedly escalated after Farheen allegedly abused Parveen during an argument. When Parveen objected and decided to approach the police station to file a complaint, the situation allegedly turned violent.
According to the complaint, Parveen had just stepped out of her house and reached near their neighbourhood grocery store when Farheen allegedly grabbed her from behind. At the same time, Mujahid reportedly arrived carrying a sword and attempted to attack her.
Police said the accused allegedly aimed for Parveen's neck. In an attempt to protect herself, she raised her hands, resulting in multiple injuries to her left hand, palm and right thigh. The attack caused severe bleeding and left the woman seriously injured.
Hearing her cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot. However, by the time they arrived, the accused couple had allegedly fled the scene. The complaint further states that the couple threatened to kill the victim if they saw her again before escaping.
Several people, including the victim's mother and other residents of the locality, are said to have witnessed parts of the incident.
The injured woman was provided with medical treatment, while police registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused. Police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the husband-wife duo, who remain absconding.
The incident has raised concerns among residents, who questioned how a sword attack could take place in broad daylight in a residential neighbourhood. Police said further investigation is underway and claimed that the accused would be arrested soon.
