In Short

  • NEET UG 2026 re-exam results to be out soon
  • Final answer key to release before results, after reviewing 10,000 objections
  • MBBS academic session will start on time despite exam delay

The wait for over 20 lakh NEET UG aspirants could soon be over. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that the NEET UG 2026 re-examination results will be declared by July 20, NTA sources told India Today, bringing long-awaited clarity to students whose medical admission plans were thrown into uncertainty after the original exam was cancelled over an alleged paper leak.

Officials have also assured that the MBBS academic session will remain on schedule, while the final answer key will be released before the scorecards.

The NEET UG re-examination was conducted on June 21, after the original examination held on May 3 was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak. The re-test was organised within weeks to minimise disruption to the admission process and ensure that the medical academic calendar remains on track.

FINAL ANSWER KEY TO BE RELEASED BEFORE RESULTS

Before publishing the results, the NTA will release the final answer key, which will form the sole basis for preparing candidates' scores. The agency had earlier published the provisional answer key in the last week of June and invited objections from candidates until June 28.

According to officials, nearly 10,000 objections were submitted during the challenge window. Every objection is currently being examined by subject experts along with the supporting documents provided by candidates before the answer key is finalised. Once this review process is completed, the final answer key will be published, followed by the declaration of the NEET UG 2026 results.

NTA SAYS MBBS ACADEMIC SESSION WILL NOT BE AFFECTED

Despite the delay caused by the cancellation of the original examination, the NTA has assured students that the MBBS admission process and the commencement of the academic session will not be delayed.

A senior NTA official said the agency is working on a "war footing" to complete the evaluation process. Normally, NEET UG results are announced around 45 days after the examination. However, since the re-examination was conducted within 37 days of the cancelled test, officials expect the results to be declared sooner than the usual timeline.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE NEET UG 2026 SCORECARD

Once the results are declared, candidates will be able to download their scorecards by visiting the official NEET website and clicking on the 'NEET UG 2026 Result' or 'Download Scorecard' link on the homepage.

They will then need to enter their Application Number, Password or Date of Birth (where applicable), along with the security captcha displayed on the screen. After submitting the details, the scorecard will appear on the screen. Candidates are advised to download the scorecard and keep a printed copy safely, as it will be required during the counselling and admission process.

Following the declaration of the results, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the counselling schedule for admissions to 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, AIIMS, JIPMER, Central Universities, and Deemed Universities.

Meanwhile, candidates seeking admission under the 85% state quota will have to participate in counselling conducted separately by their respective state counselling authorities, which will release their own admission schedules after the NEET UG results are declared.

ASPIRANTS ADVISED TO KEEP DOCUMENTS READY

With the results expected shortly, candidates are advised to keep their application credentials readily available and regularly monitor the official NEET website for updates regarding the final answer key, scorecards, counselling notifications and admission schedules.

Aspirants should also ensure that all required academic certificates, identity documents and other essential records are ready so that they can complete the admission process without delays once counselling begins.

MAJOR CHANGES PLANNED FOR NEET UG FROM 2027

Even as the NTA prepares to declare the NEET UG 2026 re-examination results, the government is simultaneously working on a major overhaul of the medical entrance examination system from 2027.

According to reports, NEET UG is expected to shift from the traditional pen-and-paper format to a computer-based test (CBT) and may be conducted over five to six days across nearly 500 cities. Most examination centres are likely to be located in government institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), with some reputed private institutions also expected to be included.

The proposed changes are part of a broader restructuring of the National Testing Agency following the NEET UG 2026 paper leak controversy. Reports indicate that the revamp will cover the agency's organisational structure, technology, infrastructure and examination processes.

The reforms are based on recommendations made by the high-level committee headed by former ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan, constituted to strengthen the integrity and transparency of national entrance examinations.

A detailed notification outlining the new examination schedule, shift timings and list of test cities is expected after the restructuring process is completed.
