IIT-Bombay professor Doolla, booked in student's suicide case, sent on leave

IIT Bombay has sent Professor Suryanarayan Doolla on leave and formed a 10-member panel to investigate Sahil Wakode's death. The move comes as the Mumbai Crime Branch summons Dulla for questioning, a day after recording statements from Sahil's parents as part of the ongoing probe.

IIT Bombay management has sent Professor Suryanarayan Doolla, on leave amid the ongoing investigation into the death by suicide of 22-year-old BTech student Sahil Wakode.

The institute has also constituted a 10-member panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student's death. The panel is expected to submit its report within a week.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Crime Branch has summoned Professor Dulla for questioning on Wednesday. He is expected to appear before the investigating agency as part of the probe into the case.

The development comes a day after the Crime Branch recorded statements from Sahil's parents in connection with the investigation.

The case has drawn attention following allegations regarding the treatment of Sahil and the conduct of faculty members. The allegations are currently being investigated and have not been established.

The Crime Branch and the institute's panel are examining the available evidence and statements to establish the sequence of events leading up to Sahil's death.
