Three Nagpur boys hatched what they thought was the perfect plan to impress their girlfriends with brand-new iPhones. But their plan backfired spectacularly when police caught them for allegedly stealing luxury sanitary fittings worth over Rs 11 lakh from a warehouse to bankroll the expensive gifts.

The robbery took place on the night of May 27-28 at a warehouse owned by Rahul Ceramics Pvt. Ltd. in the city's Kalamna area. According to police, one of the minors hatched the robbery plan after he was pressurised by his girlfriend to gift her an iPhone. They then broke into the premises by cutting through the tin roof on the second floor and made away with designer-made agricultural and household faucets and other fittings worth Rs 11.39 lakh.

The case came to light after warehouse owner Rahul Jaichand Brahma saw the tin roof, which was cut, and lodged a complaint with the police. Acting on the complaint, investigators scanned footage from more than 25 CCTV cameras installed across different parts of the city and eventually tracked down the suspects.

The accused have been identified as Irfan Ali alias Immu Ramzan Ali, a resident of Yashodharanagar, and two minors. During questioning, the trio allegedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery.

Police said the investigation revealed that one of the minors was under pressure after his girlfriend demanded an iPhone. To fulfil the demand, he allegedly hatched the robbery plan with his friends and targeted the warehouse.

"The accused admitted that the theft was committed to arrange money for purchasing iPhones for their girlfriends," said Santosh Kumar Ramlod, Police Sub-Inspector at Kalamna Police Station.

Police have recovered the stolen goods and further investigation is underway.
