2 killed in shooting at shopping centre in Idaho, gunman shot dead by cops

Two people were killed and at least two others were injured after a gunman opened fire at a shopping area in Twin Falls in the US state of Idaho on Saturday (local time) before being shot dead by police.

The shooting was reported at about 2:30 pm near an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in a busy commercial district, according to a city official who spoke to CNN.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show a man brandishing what looked like an AR-style rifle in front of the In-N-Out. Another showed a man firing the gun in a parking lot.

About an hour after the initial reports, authorities announced that "the shooter was no longer a threat".

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the suspected gunman was dead and there was no ongoing danger to the public.

"We believe that the threat to the community is over," Hicks told reporters during a news conference.

The suspected shooter "was nearby on the scene there, and we are working to try to ascertain his identity and the motivations behind that," Hicks said.

Sources told news agency Reuters that three people died in the shooting, including the gunman, while at least two others were injured. Hicks said police were still working to confirm the number of casualties.
