  • Ministers were told to travel with fewer vehicles and save fuel
  • No vehicle rallies will accompany the Chief Minister during official tours

In a move aimed at promoting austerity and reducing fuel consumption, Mohan Yadav has decided to reduce the number of vehicles in his official convoy from 13 to eight, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve petrol and diesel amid the current global situation.

The decision comes days after Aaj Tak highlighted how newly appointed chairpersons of corporations and boards in Madhya Pradesh were taking charge with large vehicle convoys and roadshows. The channel had specifically reported on the convoys accompanying leaders including Saubhagya Singh Thakur and Rakesh Singh Jadoun during their assumption of office.

Following the reports, the Chief Minister directed ministers and newly appointed office-bearers of corporations and boards to adopt simplicity and avoid vehicle rallies.

According to an official statement issued by the Madhya Pradesh government’s Public Relations Department on Monday, only eight vehicles will now be part of the Chief Minister’s motorcade until further orders. The government also said no vehicle rallies would be organised during the Chief Minister’s tours.

The order was discussed during a meeting of the state cabinet, where Mohan Yadav urged ministers to minimise the use of vehicles, encourage public transport and adopt fuel-saving measures in the national interest.

“All ministers should use the minimum number of vehicles during travel,” the statement said.

The government has also instructed newly appointed corporation and board office-bearers to take charge in a simple manner without organising large processions or convoys.

The move is being seen as both an administrative austerity measure and a response to criticism over the growing culture of VIP convoys in the state.

The Madhya Pradesh government said the steps were in line with Prime Minister Modi’s broader appeal for reducing unnecessary fuel consumption and promoting economical governance practices.
