Meerut woman claims husband used intimate video to force conversion, marriage

A Meerut woman has accused her husband of using an alleged intimate video to force her religious conversion and marriage. Her complaint alleges years of assault, threats and stalking, and police say they are investigating.

A Meerut woman has accused her husband of using an intimate video to pressure her into changing her religion and marrying him, before allegedly subjecting her to years of physical abuse and coercion.

In a complaint submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police on Thursday, the woman, identified as Anita alias Anisa Khatoon, alleged that her husband, Zakir Saifi, first established a relationship with her around eight years ago and had sexual relations with her against her wishes before recording a video.

She alleged that when she objected to the video being made, Saifi threatened to make it public. According to her complaint, he then pressured her to convert to Islam and married her according to Muslim customs on April 30, 2018.

The complaint also contains allegations of repeated assault, caste-based abuse, pressure to have relations with other people and threats to her life. Police said the allegations are being investigated.

According to the complaint, Anita, who identified herself as belonging to the Jatav community, said Saifi had trapped her in a relationship and later recorded a video without her consent.

She alleged that he threatened to circulate the video and used it to put pressure on her. She subsequently converted to Islam and married him on April 30, 2018, she claimed.

The complaint identifies Saifi as a resident of Madhavpuram in Meerut.

In a separate video statement, the woman also described herself as having been married since 2018. Asked about her name, she said her original name was Anita, while her husband changed it to Anisha, telling her that she would follow Islam.

She said she had followed the religion throughout the period she had been with him, which she described as around eight years.

WOMAN ALLEGES YEARS OF ABUSE

The woman alleged that the marriage was followed by repeated physical and verbal abuse.

She claimed her husband would abuse her, beat her and use caste-based slurs against her. She also alleged that he would tell her that he would not keep her and that there were "many women like me".

In her video statement, she said the situation had become particularly difficult over the past two years.

"He hasn't taken care of me for the past two years," she said, adding that he had also failed to take care of the children and family.

She further alleged that her husband pressured her to have improper relations with other people and to engage in prostitution to earn money. When she resisted, she claimed, she was beaten.

FAMILY COURT ORDER CAME WITHOUT HER KNOWLEDGE, SHE CLAIMS

The complaint also refers to a case filed by Saifi in the family court.

The woman alleged that Saifi filed case number 1090 of 2021 in the Family Court in Meerut and that, without her knowledge or service of any notice, an ex-parte decision dated January 9, 2023 was used to declare their April 30, 2018 marriage void.

She claimed she came to know about the court proceedings only later.

According to the complaint, when she confronted Saifi about the matter, he allegedly threatened her and warned her against taking legal action.

ASSOCIATES ALSO NAMED IN COMPLAINT

The woman has also accused one of Saifi's acquaintances, identified as Shahzad, of entering her home and allegedly behaving obscenely with her and attempting to force himself on her.

She said she called Dial 112 after the alleged incident. According to her complaint, Shahzad left after threatening her.

She further alleged that Shahzad and some unidentified associates had continued to follow her, leaving her fearful for her safety.

The woman has asked the police to register a case against her husband and the other people named in the complaint and take legal action.

'I DON'T KNOW WHERE I WILL GO'

In the video statement, the woman spoke about feeling abandoned and uncertain about what to do next.

"I don't know where I will go. I don't know what I will do," she said.

She alleged that her husband had initially promised to keep her happy but now did not even look at her or provide her with money.

The woman said she had come forward after years of alleged harassment, particularly as the situation had worsened over the past two years.

POLICE PROBE UNDERWAY

Brahmapuri Circle Officer Ram Prakash said the woman from Madhavpuram had submitted a complaint against her husband making serious allegations.

"The allegations made in the complaint are being investigated. Further legal action will be taken based on the investigation," he said.

The complaint was submitted on August 27, 2026. Police are examining the allegations before deciding on further legal action.
