  • He said democratic governments must protect opposition leaders as a basic duty

Jan Shakti Janata Dal National President Tej Pratap Yadav has returned the remaining security cover provided to him by the Bihar government, saying the state remains responsible for ensuring his safety.

Tej Pratap was earlier protected under a Y-category security cover. However, following a recent review of VIP security arrangements in Bihar, the state government withdrew his Y-category protection, leaving him with the security of a single bodyguard.

After returning to Bihar, Tej Pratap voluntarily surrendered the remaining security personnel as well and announced the decision through a social media post. He said the Bihar government had already been informed about his move.

In the post, Tej Pratap stated that although he has given up his security cover, the responsibility for his safety continues to lie with the state government. He argued that providing security to opposition leaders is the duty of a government in a democratic system.

He further said that if any untoward incident takes place in the future, the government would be held accountable.

The development has sparked political discussion in Bihar and comes days after the state government revised the security arrangements of former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
