A man has been arrested for allegedly attacking his former girlfriend with an axe after she refused to continue communicating with him in Gujarat’s Valsad district. The woman sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The accused, Rajesh Patel, also allegedly attacked the woman’s husband, police said.
According to preliminary information, Sunita, a married woman originally from Dharampur, used to travel to Charwada village every year for work. During one such visit, she reportedly developed a relationship with Rajesh, who was also married. Their relationship came to light about a year ago, leading to disputes within their families. Following the fallout, Sunita ended the relationship and stopped communicating with Rajesh.
Police said tensions escalated when Sunita returned to Charwada village for work this year and refused to resume contact with Rajesh. In the latest incident, the accused allegedly entered her house while she was alone and repeatedly attacked her with an axe, leaving her seriously injured.
Investigators also found that Rajesh allegedly attacked Sunita’s husband and attempted to kill him. The Dungri police team launched an investigation and arrested the accused. Police have recovered the axe allegedly used in the attack and reconstructed the crime scene as part of the investigation.
The accused is in police custody as the investigation continues.
