Video: Cop slaps woman complainant at Delhi hotel, clash ensues; probe ordered

A Delhi Police sub-inspector has been removed from active field duty pending an enquiry after a video allegedly showing him slapping a woman during an intervention at a hotel in Adarsh Nagar went viral on Saturday. Following the circulation of the footage, senior police officer Akanksha Yadav ordered a vigilance enquiry into the incident.

The incident occurred around 1.30 am on Thursday after police received a PCR call about a fight between two groups of women staying at a hotel in the Panchwati area. Sub-inspector Himanshu, accompanied by male and female police personnel, reached the hotel to intervene.

During the enquiry, police found that a woman identified as Anshu, who had travelled from West Bengal with three companions, had suffered a bleeding leg injury. She alleged that another woman, Roopa, a resident of Burari, and her three associates attacked her following a dispute over a financial transaction.

According to police, tensions remained high even after officers arrived at the scene. CCTV footage allegedly shows SI Himanshu recording statements when one of the women said something to him. The officer is then seen slapping the woman, following which a heated confrontation broke out between the woman, her companions and the police outside the hotel, triggering a commotion.

After the video surfaced and a complaint was received, the DCP removed the sub-inspector from active field duty, attached him to the police lines pending the inquiry, and handed the investigation over to the district vigilance branch.

Police said the injured woman underwent a medical examination at BJRM Hospital. Notices have also been issued to all those involved to join the investigation.
