Minor abducted, sexually assaulted; accused attacks cop with machete, gets shot
A Coimbatore police probe into the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 14-year-old turned violent when an accused allegedly attacked Inspector Suvarnavalli with a concealed machete. Police said they opened fire in self-defence, while the investigation and further legal action continue.

A police investigation into the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore takes a violent turn after one of the accused allegedly attacks a police inspector with a concealed machete and is shot in the leg in self-defence.
The two accused, identified as Santhosh, 24, and Thavasi, 28, were arrested after allegedly abducting the minor on a two-wheeler and sexually assaulting her at a house in Kanjikkonampalayam.
The case was registered by the All Women Police Station (South) following a complaint. During the investigation, police allegedly found that the two men had abducted the girl and taken her to the house, where she was sexually assaulted.
The survivor was subsequently sent to hospital for a medical examination.
ACCUSED ALLEGEDLY ATTACKS POLICE INSPECTOR
After the arrests, police took Thavasi to a location where he had allegedly hidden a machete that was used to threaten the girl.
A police team led by Inspector Suvarnavalli went to the location to recover the weapon.
According to police, Thavasi suddenly took out the concealed machete and attacked Suvarnavalli, injuring her.
Police then opened fire in self-defence, hitting Thavasi in his left leg.
He received first aid at the spot before being taken by ambulance to the District Government Medical College Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
INSPECTOR ALSO HOSPITALISED
Inspector Suvarnavalli, who was injured in the alleged machete attack, was also admitted to hospital and is receiving treatment.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and sexual assault as well as the subsequent attack on the police team.
Further legal action is being taken against Santhosh and Thavasi.
