  • Claims and objections open from August 17 to September 16
  • Final electoral roll publication delayed to October 19

The Election Commission has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi by 12 days, pushing the publication of the draft electoral roll to August 17 from the earlier scheduled date of August 5.

The revision comes after the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi sought additional time in a request submitted to the Election Commission on July 14.

Under the revised schedule, the door-to-door verification exercise by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will now continue till August 8, giving election officials 10 extra days beyond the earlier deadline of July 29. The verification drive had begun across the national capital on June 30.

Following the extension, the draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17. The period for filing claims and objections has also been rescheduled and will remain open from August 17 to September 16.

The Election Commission has correspondingly pushed back the publication of the final electoral roll to October 19, instead of the previously announced October 7. Overall, the remaining stages of Delhi's Special Intensive Revision exercise have been delayed by 12 days.

Delhi is part of Phase 3 of the nationwide SIR exercise, which was rolled out by the Election Commission on May 14. Once the third phase is completed, the exercise will cover the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The latest revision follows similar changes announced earlier this week for Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, which are also part of Phase 3. In separate communications to the chief electoral officers of both states, the Election Commission extended the deadline for house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers from July 14 to July 24.

Consequently, the publication of the draft electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana has also been deferred from July 21 to July 31.

The SIR exercise, aimed at updating and verifying electoral rolls through extensive field verification, has witnessed multiple revisions to its timelines in recent weeks owing to a range of administrative and logistical reasons. The Election Commission has been adjusting schedules across states to facilitate the completion of the revision process.
