Madhya Pradesh woman strangles nephew-lover with dupatta over marriage pressure

A woman in Madhya Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly murdering her nephew, with whom she was in a relationship for two years. As per police sources, the woman, identified as Priya Gupta, strangled the victim with a scarf and left his body inside a car after being pressurised for marriage for a prolonged time.

The incident came to light on July 31 after Satyaprakash Gupta was found unconscious in the driver's seat of a Maruti Suzuki S-Presso in Singrauli district. His brother, Rahul Gupta alias Sanjay, alerted police after spotting him inside the vehicle.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the murder, the local police registered a complaint, sent the body for a post-mortem, and launched an investigation shortly after. They visited the site and collected evidence for the investigation.

As part of the probe, the police soon discovered Satyaprakash’s link to Priya, his aunt and the widow of late Sunil Gupta. They found out that the two had been in a relationship and the victim was allegedly pressurising her for marriage. The proposals often led to severe disputes between the two.

According to the police, the two met on the day of the murder and had an argument which escalated further. As a result, Priya strangled Satyaprakash to death.

POLICE CRACK THE CASE WITH THE HELP OF CCTV

While investigating, the police found the CCTV footage on the day of the crime, which helped them crack the case.

It showed that Priya was taking Satyaprakash to his parked car around midnight. She later called the victim’s brother and informed him that Satyaprakash was inside the vehicle to divert suspicion after the murder.

Based on the evidence collected, police arrested Priya Gupta and registered a case at Morwa police station under Crime No. 420/26 under Sections 103(1) and 238(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She was later produced before a court, while further investigation into the case is underway.
