Delhi e-rickshaw driver stabbed to death after stepping into bike-scooter fight

An e-rickshaw driver was allegedly stabbed to death in northwest Delhi after intervening in a fight that followed a motorcycle-scooter collision in Rohini's Sector 28. Police arrested five people, including two women, in connection with the September 12 incident. The victim's family alleged that timely help could have saved his life.

An e-rickshaw driver was allegedly stabbed to death in northwest Delhi after he stepped in during a fight that broke out following a collision between a motorcycle and a scooter, police said on Monday. The incident took place in Rohini's Sector 28 on the night of September 12, and five people, including two women, have been arrested.

The deceased was identified as Abhishek. His father, Shobharam Prajapati, alleged that after his son was stabbed, no one came forward to help him as he lay on the road bleeding. Prajapati and his relatives later blocked the road with the body, demanding justice, and said timely help could have saved his life.

Prajapati said Abhishek drove an e-rickshaw and was the sole support of the family. He said, "He was taken to a government hospital, and he died due to too much blood loss." He also said Abhishek was married and had no children.

A senior police officer said, "Police apprehended all five accused. The incident began when a motorcycle and a scooter collided while the accused people were returning from the Ayurved Hospital side. An altercation followed the collision, and Abhishek intervened."

The officer said Abhishek's intervention allegedly led to a confrontation with one of the accused, Himanshu, 21. During the altercation, Abhishek allegedly slapped Himanshu and grabbed his neck. Police said another accused, Anuj, 19, then held the e-rickshaw driver from behind, after which Sachin alias Santosh, 22, allegedly took out a knife and stabbed Abhishek, causing serious injuries. He was taken to hospital but later died, the officer said.

According to police, Himanshu was involved in the initial altercation with Abhishek. The knife used in the offence was recovered at his instance, along with his motorcycle. Sachin alias Santosh's scooter was also recovered during the investigation.

Police identified the other two accused as Nandini Tiwari, 19, and Kunti alias Vanshika, 18. They said both women were accompanying the other accused and were present at the spot when the incident took place, and that the investigation established their involvement. Police said the three men are from the Shahbad area, while the two women are residents of Jahangirpuri.

Police said teams were formed after the incident to identify and catch all those involved, and further investigation is underway. The case centres on the stabbing of Abhishek after he intervened in the fight that followed the road collision.
