The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has directed the registration of a case against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in connection with allegations of dual citizenship, BJP leader Vignesh Shishir has claimed.

Shishir, a Karnataka-based BJP leader, had moved the High Court seeking to quash a trial court order linked to his plea for lodging an FIR against Gandhi. The matter pertained to his allegation that the Congress leader has British citizenship.

In a statement following the court proceedings, Shishir said the High Court had allowed his petition and ordered the Kotwali Police Station in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh to register an FIR against Gandhi in what he described as a "British citizenship case".

He termed the development a "landmark and historic judgement", adding that the decision was in the interest of national security and larger public interest.

"In a Land Mark and Historic Judgement The Hon'ble Allahabad High Court at Lucknow Bench has allowed my Petition and Ordered & Directed the Kotwali Police Station, Rae Bareli District, Uttar Pradesh to Register a First Information Report Against Shri. Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament Lok Sabha and Leader of Opposition Lok Sabha in British Citizenship Case," Shishir said in a post on X.

"I Thank the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court at Lucknow Bench from the bottom of my heart and will always be ever indebted till my last breath to the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court at Lucknow Bench for bringing out the Truth in the Interest of National Security and Larger Public Interest," he added.

Furthermore, the BJP leader also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for clearing all the top secret files to be produced before the Allahabad High Court.

There was no immediate response from Gandhi or the Congress on the claims.

Shishir had claimed that he has that documents and certain emails from the British government which establish that Rahul Gandhi holds British citizenship, making him ineligible to contest elections in India or serve as a Lok Sabha member.
