Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has sought Rs 100 crore from the Centre to speed up the PM-UDAY scheme, providing property rights to residents of 1,511 unauthorised colonies in the national capital, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office on Sunday.
In a letter to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, Gupta said the amount had been proposed for the first phase in 2026-27 to help complete key steps under the scheme within the prescribed timeline, including district-level cells, modern land survey work and public outreach.
According to the statement, the Delhi government’s Revenue Department has been named the nodal agency for implementing the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies under Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana in the city. Under its responsibilities, PM-UDAY cells will be set up in all 13 districts of Delhi, each to be headed by an Additional District Magistrate.
Gupta said Rs 25 crore had been proposed for setting up these cells, adding that without them, it would not be possible to issue property-related documents and authorisation letters within the stipulated 45-day timeline.
The proposal includes Rs 65 crore for a DRISHTI-based modern land survey and mapping system to make property verification and land records modernisation more transparent, accurate and technology-driven. It also covers a large-scale exercise for physical verification of properties, digital mapping using modern technology and updating land records across Delhi’s 1,511 unauthorised colonies.
Another Rs 10 crore has been set aside for public awareness and outreach activities, including workshops with Residents Welfare Associations, help desks and dissemination of information such as important eligibility-related dates.
Gupta said timely financial support from the central government would help ensure that lakhs of Delhi residents receive the benefits of property rights at the earliest and with greater ease. The proposal aims to accelerate the scheme through district-level set-ups, land record modernisation and outreach among residents.
