A man whose charred body was found near National Highway 9 in Rohtak's Madina village has been identified as Sher Mohammad, an Ola cab driver from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Police suspect he was murdered and his car taken away, while his family has alleged that he may have been killed in a robbery.

Sher Mohammad had been living in Delhi and driving his relative's Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as an Ola cab for about a week. He had earlier worked as an ambulance driver in Aligarh.

BODY FOUND NEAR HIGHWAY

A partially burnt body was found on Monday near an air relay centre close to the bani of Madina village on the Hisar Road in Rohtak.

Following an investigation, police identified the deceased as Sher Mohammad. His family said that someone had booked the car on September 7, after which his body was found near Madina the following morning.

CAR'S LAST LOCATION TRACED TO SIRSA

Police investigation has found that the last location of the Ertiga was traced to Sirsa, but the vehicle has not yet been recovered.

The family suspects that Sher Mohammad was killed after being targeted for the car and that the perpetrators fled with the vehicle after dumping and burning his body.

POLICE EXAMINING DIGITAL EVIDENCE

After confirming the victim's identity, Rohtak Police are now focusing on tracing those responsible for the murder. Investigators are examining mobile phone data and other digital evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify the suspects.

The investigating officer said police have found some important digital clues and are hopeful of reaching the accused soon.

The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination. Sher Mohammad will subsequently be buried in his native village in Aligarh.

Police are continuing the investigation, with the recovery of the missing Ertiga and identification of the accused remaining key challenges.
