KTR condemns Congress-led Telangana government for atrocities on Dalits, farmers

In a press conference held at Delhi’s Constitution Club, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) joined hands with landowners from Lagacharla to expose the alleged injustices perpetrated by the Congress-led Telangana government.

KTR’s press conference was held on Monday to highlight the stories of harassment, forced land acquisition, and police excesses, undertaken in the state under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, that left many traumatised.

“We are here in Delhi to shed light on the atrocities committed by the Revanth Reddy-led government against tribal women and farmers,” KTR stated during the press conference. He accused the Congress administration of violating basic human rights and highlighted the stark contrast between Rahul Gandhi’s public rhetoric on the welfare of marginalised communities and the ground reality in Telangana.

VICTIMS RECOUNT BRUTALITY, INTIMIDATION

Farmers from Lagacharla shared harrowing accounts of police raids conducted in the dead of night, with electricity cut off to facilitate forceful entry. Victims recounted how family members, including women and children, were arrested and abused. A particularly distressing account came from Jyothi, a nine-month pregnant woman, who described how her husband was beaten and detained.

“For 50-60 years, we have lived on these lands,” said one farmer, adding that they “will not give up” their lands, even if it costs them their lives.

The villagers allege that these forceful measures were intended to seize land for a private pharmaceutical project linked to the Chief Minister’s family.

Victims detailed how police harassed women, with some reporting sexual misconduct. “Intoxicated officers misbehaved with young girls,” one woman lamented. The victims noted that while some of their men remain in jail, others are missing, leading to immense distress. They further accused the Chief Minister’s brother of issuing threats to those who resisted.

KTR condemned this and said: “In Telangana, similar atrocities against tribals are taking place, which are no less severe than Manipur’s violence or the deaths of children in Uttar Pradesh hospitals. After 10 years of progressive governance under KCR (BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao), Telangana is now witnessing such lawlessness.”

NEED FOR NATIONAL ATTENTION

Holding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accountable for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, KTR stated: “The police are functioning as Revanth Reddy’s private army. Rahul Gandhi, who talks about Manipur, should answer why he remains silent on the atrocities against tribals in Telangana.”

KTR further asked: “Rahul Gandhi, does the Revanth Reddy government’s oppression of tribals in Telangana not concern you?”

KTR also called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the matter. “Has the Prime Minister forgotten that Telangana is a part of India? Why hasn’t he responded to these brutalities? Will he only react after farmers in Lagadcharla lose their lives?” KTR asked.

He also held the media accountable and said: “This is no less significant than what happened in Manipur. National media should also showcase the atrocities and oppression taking place in Telangana.”

Women at the press conference directly appealed to Rahul Gandhi, reminding him of his promise to listen to the voices of the marginalised. “Mr. Gandhi, you once said you would come if children called you. Now, tribal women are calling out for your help. Will you come?” one of the victims stated.
