Domestic help arrested for Rs 2.65 crore theft from Sachin Ahir's Mumbai home

Mumbai Police have arrested a domestic help who worked for Sachin Ahir's family in connection with an alleged theft of valuables worth Rs 2.65 crore from his Worli home. Investigators say his long access to the house may have helped the alleged thefts go undetected for years, while three other workers are being traced.

A domestic help who worked at the residence of Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson and Shiv Sena leader Sachin Ahir has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of valuables worth Rs 2.65 crore from the Mumbai home.

The accused, identified as Pravin Ramesh Solanki (45), was produced before a court and sent to police custody till July 28. The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case, with further action underway.

According to officials, Solanki had been working with Ahir’s family for nearly two decades. Police suspect that his long association with the family helped him gain knowledge of where valuables were kept, allegedly allowing him to steal items over a period of around three years without immediate detection.

The alleged theft came to light after a family member at Ahir’s Worli residence noticed that a piece of jewellery was missing last week. A subsequent check revealed that several items, including gold ornaments, gold biscuits, diamond jewellery, silver articles and cash, were allegedly missing from the house.

The case was initially registered at Worli police station on a complaint filed by Ahir’s son, Krishna, before being transferred to the Crime Branch for investigation.

During the probe, Crime Branch officials recovered around 325 grams of gold from a Mumbai jeweller, where Solanki had allegedly sold part of the stolen ornaments. Police are seeking legal opinion on whether the jeweller should be booked for allegedly receiving stolen property or treated as a witness.

Investigators said Solanki allegedly confessed during questioning that he had sold the stolen valuables and shared the proceeds with his associates.

Police suspect the involvement of three other domestic workers, who are currently absconding. Efforts are underway to trace them and recover the remaining stolen property.

Sachin Ahir was elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council as a candidate of the ruling Mahayuti alliance on July 1.
