They tried to burn me alive: Punjab influencer Manjit Kaur's final video surfaces

A final video of influencer Manjit Kaur has surfaced after her death, in which she alleges she was targeted in an attempt to burn her alive. It has renewed focus on the abduction and murder case, as police trace the accused and examine the sequence of events.

A video said to be the last recording of Chandigarh-based social media influencer Manjeet Kaur has surfaced following her death, with her alleging that she was “tried to be burnt alive”. The video was reportedly recorded during her treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh, where she battled severe burn injuries for nearly eight weeks.

In the video, Kaur recounts the incident and appears to seek action against those she held responsible for her condition. Kaur, 28, was allegedly abducted from Chandigarh’s Sector 34 area on July 3 after she was called near a liquor shop by two acquaintances, Shubhi and Pinda.

According to a complaint filed by her mother, Kanta Devi, the two allegedly took Kaur to a secluded location in Morinda, Punjab, where she was assaulted, tied to a tree and set on fire.

A friend who reached the spot managed to put out the flames using a blanket and rushed Kaur to a hospital in Morinda. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Mohali before being admitted to PGIMER in Chandigarh.

INFLUENCER DIES AFTER NEARLY EIGHT WEEKS

Kaur remained under treatment for nearly eight weeks before succumbing to her burn injuries on August 26, police said. She had around 1.46 lakh followers on Instagram and regularly posted videos featuring Punjabi and Haryanvi songs.

Following Kaur’s death, Chandigarh Police registered a case of abduction and murder against Rinku, Shubhi and Pinda based on a complaint filed by her mother.

Speaking to India Today, DSP Gurjeet Kaur confirmed the case. “The case of abduction and murder has been registered. A case has been registered against Rinku, Shubhi and Pinda,” she said.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and attack and examining CCTV footage and other evidence.

No arrests had been made so far, DSP Gurjeet Kaur said. Police are also seeking further details from Kaur’s family to establish the sequence of events and determine the motive behind the alleged crime.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, among other provisions. Efforts are underway to trace the accused.

FAMILY HAD EARLIER ALLEGED POLICE INACTION

The case had earlier raised questions over the handling of Kaur’s complaint after her family alleged that she regained consciousness on August 5 and that Mohali Police were informed about her condition.

Her mother claimed she had requested police to record Kaur’s statement, but no police team arrived. Police rejected the allegation and said they had extended full cooperation to the family.

The investigation is now focused on establishing the circumstances surrounding Kaur’s alleged abduction and attack, identifying the role of the accused and determining the motive behind the crime.
