A Class 7 dropout who allegedly forged Aadhaar and PAN cards for Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 was arrested in Hyderabad, police said.

The accused, identified as 36-year-old Mahadev, runs Kavitha A to Z Online Services, a Xerox centre in Budwel. Police said he used software to alter identity documents from his residence in Sriram Colony, Jalpally.

According to police, Mahadev changed photographs, names, dates of birth and residential addresses based on customers’ requirements. He charged Rs 300 to change the date of birth on an Aadhaar card and Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 to alter all the details.

Customers allegedly used the forged documents to secure jobs at private factories around Hyderabad, obtain mobile phone SIM cards and access government welfare schemes.

Acting on a tip-off, the Shamshabad Zone Task Force and Pahadishareef Police raided his residence and arrested him. They seized 60 fake or altered Aadhaar cards, two PAN cards, a laptop, a printer, a lamination machine, a mobile phone and Rs 5,000 in cash.

Investigators said Mahadev began forging documents because his earnings from the Xerox business were insufficient to support his family.

He was handed over to Pahadishareef Police for further investigation. Police are also working to identify customers who allegedly obtained and used the forged documents.
