Mumbai manhole tragedy: 4 BMC officials suspended for negligence

by · India Today

Four Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, including a ward officer, have been suspended following the death of an elderly man who fell into an open manhole in Mumbai. The suspension came after allegations of negligence and irresponsible handling of municipal works during heavy rainfall. The Mumbai Mayor visited the site and stated that the administration should be held responsible for conducting drain cleanup operations during the monsoon, rather than completing them beforehand. Additionally, a police complaint is being registered against the contractor responsible for leaving the manhole open.
