An 84-year-old man was allegedly killed by his 35-year-old son following a dispute over money in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district, police said.

Police reached the spot after receiving information about the murder of the elderly man, Nawab Ali.

During the preliminary investigation, police found that a dispute over a money exchange had taken place between Nawab Ali and his son, Ramzan Muhammad. The son attacked his father on the head and face with a brick and an axe, killing him.

Police took the body into custody and began the proceedings for the inquest and post-mortem examination. A field unit and dog squad were also deployed to collect evidence, while police conducted a detailed examination of the crime scene.

According to the family, the accused son had been demanding money from his father for several days. The family alleged that he had also threatened to kill his father if he did not give him money.

On the morning of the incident, the victim's grandson entered the room and found Nawab Ali lying there covered in blood. He immediately informed other family members, following which chaos broke out in the house.

Police said they are registering a case under relevant sections based on a complaint filed by the family. The accused son has been arrested in connection with the murder.
