Police have made the 15th arrest in the Baba Siddique murder case, two weeks after the Maharashtra politician was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan's office in Mumbai.

The accused, identified as Sujit Singh, is a resident of Ghatkopar in Mumbai. He had fled to Ludhiana in Punjab a month ago, from where he was arrested on Friday, police said. He was hiding at his in-laws' residence in the city for over a month.

According to police, Sujit Singh is the person who introduced the alleged mastermind of the murder, Zeeshan Akhtar, to the arrested accused Nitin Sapre and Ran Kanaujia, who were earlier roped in to eliminate Baba Siddique.

The police have not yet gone on record to link the murder of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) leader to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who had claimed responsibility for the crime. Also, no official statement has come to ascertain the motive behind the murder.

However, Mumbai Police on Wednesday claimed that Siddique's shooters were in contact with Lawrence Bishnoi's brother, Anmol Bishnoi, before they killed the former Maharashtra minister.

The accused were using multiple social media accounts to remain in touch with Anmol even as the motive behind the murder remained unknown, police said.

Meanwhile, on Friday, in a major operation against the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested seven suspected shooters from Punjab and other states.

Police officials confirmed that six sophisticated pistols, 24 live cartridges and a GPS tracking device were recovered from the suspects.

Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office while he was bursting firecrackers on the occasion of Dussehra on October 12.
