BOY FELL INTO DRAIN WHILE RETRIEVING KITE
The incident took place in the Jasola village area of Delhi at around 11 am on Saturday. The boy was reportedly wearing his school uniform when he fell into the open drain.
According to his maternal uncle, Shiva, the boy was getting ready for school when he climbed up to retrieve a kite and accidentally fell into the drain.
"We were all at work, his parents included. He was ready for school and wearing his uniform when, on a whim, he climbed up to retrieve a kite and fell into the drain," Shiva said.
The police, fire department and other agencies were informed after the incident, following which a rescue operation was launched.
DAY-LONG SEARCH FAILS TO LOCATE STUDENT
Rescue teams searched the drain throughout Saturday, but couldn’t find the boy.
The boy's father, Avadhesh Kumar, said the rescue team arrived after they were informed about the incident and that divers were also present at the site.
"My son is 15 years old and studies in eighth grade. He fell into the drain at 11:00 AM on Saturday, but despite searching all day, he hasn't been found," Kumar said.
He alleged that although divers arrived at the site, they did not enter the drain and instead prodded the water with sticks from outside.
FAMILY WAITS FOR CHILD
As the search operation continued, the boy’s mother and other family members remained at the spot, hoping for his safe recovery.
The boy's mother, who was seen crying and pleading for her child to be found, said: "I don't want anything else; just give me my child."
